|JACK LADDER BLUE POLES Limited Vinyl LP
Welcome to the sentimental and mournful, sardonic and surreal world of Jack Ladder.
Blue Poles is the fifth album from one of the most singular characters in Australian music. Sentimental and mournful, sardonic and surreal. Jack Ladder brings that towering and tender baritone to bear on tales of beauty, love, hope and redemption. A master of musical narrative, he conjures lyrics that celebrate the absurdity and sincerity of the human condition in songs that groove in subtle ways.
Once again a crowd of musical influences ? the kitchen sink drama of 60's Scott Walker, the frenetic assault of early Brian Eno, the existential country of Will Oldham and the cold confidence of "I'm Your Man" era Leonard Cohen ? combine to form an idiosyncratic sound that could be only his.
Standing at almost seven feet tall, Jack Ladder is the kind of crooner you suspect David Lynch needs to know. He has been invited to tour and work alongside some of the world's most intriguing musicians: Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Weyes Blood, Father John Misty, Florence and the Machine and of late been touring the US, UK and Europe with dear friend Alex Cameron.
The nine songs that make up Blue Poles were recorded at Oceanic Studio in Sydney, engineered by Tim Whiten (The Necks, The Church, The Go-Betweens) and mixed in Los Angeles by Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom). Once again he's joined by The Dreamlanders, Australia's very own misfit supergroup made up of Donny Benet on bass, Laurence Pike on drums and this time two guitarists - Kirin J Callinan and Ben Hauptmann.
