DOUBLE HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL EDITION OF THE 2012 STUDIO ALBUM FROM THE ENID - NOW ON MADFISH
The Enid, the British cult symphonic rock band founded in 1974 by Robert John Godfrey, Stephen Stewart and Francis Lickerish are renowned for their large-scale, myth and fantasy-inspired instrumental pieces. They began recording at about the same time as punk rock burst upon the scene. Godfrey has said that he always regarded The Enid's ironic takes on classical music as being just as anarchic as anything by the Sex Pistols, but this did not translate into either musical or commercial recognition, despite their work being played frequently by Tommy Vance on BBC Radio One's Friday Rock Show. In the early 80s The Enid became the first band ever to self-fund their recordings with contributions from fans in advance; a revolutionary concept that has since led to bands as diverse as Marillion and Radiohead taking lead from their approach. Originally released in 2012, 'Invicta', the bands 13th studio album, maintains their tradition for narrative whilst building upon the musical motifs of its 2010 predecessor, 'Journey's End', the album aims to interpret wider themes of what humanity is able to achieve as a collective; celebrating greatness yet acknowledging adverse extremes. From the immense choral arrangements of "The Whispering", featuring over 200 vocal layers, contrasted with the hauntingly beautiful solo tones of "One and the Many", Invicta laments on the power of the whole. Individually we are all alone but together we are invincible.
'Invicta' is the third in the series of re-releases from the Madfish label the first two, 'In The Region Of The Summer Stars' (released in 1976) and 'Aerie Faerie Nonsense' (released in 1977) being released earlier in 2014, and is due to be released on 16th June as a gatefold 180g double vinyl LP, with an exclusive etching on side 4.
