Overview
Despite being one of the biggest pop superstars and most popular recording artists of the 1970s, with lavish stage shows, undisputed hit-writing skills, extraordinary charisma and amazing versatility (at home with classic pop, soul, disco, country and rock!), Elton John was initially viewed as a singer-songwriter, as these two classic albums illustrate.

Elton’s third studio album quickly followed the success of ‘Elton John’ and was originally released in January 1971. While ‘Tumbleweed Connection’ did not deliver a hit single it is perhaps his most underestimated album in quality and depth. With Bernie Taupin continuing to show his passion and fascination for cowboys and the ‘wild west’, the album has this significant theme running throughout, which is underlined by the imagery of the album’s sleeve design.

A bonus disc consisting of 13 tracks, (10 previously unreleased) is included on this newly re-mastered ‘Deluxe’ version and draws on an extensive trawl of the archives to give you a never-before-heard demo ‘Sisters of the Cross’ and early demo versions of five further album tracks, including the alternatively titled “There Goes a Well Known Gun”.

The demo version of “Talking Old Soldiers” (the album version being perhaps the favourite track for the die-hard Elton fans) has a quite an alternative softer feel in it’s delivery and interpretation. The album includes an alternative version of ‘Madman Across the Water’ (featuring Mick Ronson on guitar) which actually originated from the Tumbleweed sessions despite not appearing until it became the title track of Elton’s next studio album.

Also contains a lavish, 28-page booklet with extensive new sleevenotes, period photos and lyrics.

2 CDs for both fans and lovers of conceptually innovative writing from one of the world’s paramount performers…. make your connection.
