|Best known as the iconic frontman of Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan made a dynamic solo return on October 8th with ‘Kingdom’. The first single to be taken from his eagerly awaited LP ‘Hourglass’, it follows 2003’s solo debut ‘Paper Monsters’ and is a welcome return for the acclaimed singer/songwriter. This 2nd club 12" of Kingdom is released on highly collectable 12” vinyl on Mute on 12th November.
Written, performed and produced by Dave Gahan, Christian Eigner & Andrew Phillpott - both members of the Depeche Mode touring band - ‘Kingdom’ is a masterclass in energetic electronica.
The 12" features mixes from US DJ RALPHI ROSARIO.
“It’s this idea that there’s a better place, and it’s not up there in the clouds, it’s right here. And it’s about becoming more accepting of life and the way it is.” Says Dave. “I would be lying if I said the world didn’t affect me. I have children and I want to protect them; and sometimes I don’t really have the ability to do that.”
Produced by Dave with Christian Eigner & Andrew Phillpott, ‘Hourglass’ also reflects Gahan’s growth as a songwriter. Initially showcased with 2003’s ‘Paper Monsters’, he later wrote 3 stellar tracks for Depeche Mode's recent 2-million selling ‘Playing The Angel’ – ‘I Want It All’, ‘Suffer Well’ & ‘Nothing's Impossible’.
Sonically, the record cuts across a range of influences and styles with grace. Decidedly more electronic than his previous solo work, he has seamlessly swapped the guitar of ‘Paper Monsters’ for the synthesizer he epitomizes so well.
The new album is musically far closer to the sound of Depeche Mode.
